Class A recycled water is used in RMIT’s City Campus fountains.

RMIT University is committed to reducing its carbon footprint and providing a safe and “green” university for students and staff.

RMIT is fostering a “think green” culture within the University community and beyond and encourages staff, students and the general public to make changes in their day-to-day lives, both at work and at home, to minimise their impact on the environment.

RMIT has also made the commitment to incorporate sustainability principles and practices into teaching and learning, research and operational activities.

Greenhouse Gas Emissions Reduction Target

RMIT has set a goal to achieve a greenhouse gas emissions reduction by 32% by 2020 from a 2007 baseline. This target is in collaborations with the Australian Technology Network (ATN), which also includes the Queensland University of Technology (QUT), the University of Technology, Sydney (UTS), the University of South Australia (USA) and the Curtin University of Technology (CUT).

Water Reduction Target

RMIT is also aiming to reduce its water consumption to 8% by 2010 from a baseline of 2006.

Legislative Compliance

RMIT is committed to compliance with the Environment Protection Authority’s Environment and Resource Efficiency Planning (EREP) scheme and the Commonwealth Government’s National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting (NGER) scheme.
