Both staff and students are eligible for security access cards.
Both students and staff are eligible for security access cards, which provide them with after-hours access to nominated RMIT buildings.
All new students are issued with a student card, which can be obtained from the Hub. The student card can also be programmed to enable students after-hours access to buildings and facilities in which they are undertaking their field of study.
Re-enrolling students can have the after-hours access on their student cards reinstated for the forthcoming academic year.
Students should request the reinstatement of their after-hours access at their School.
1. All new staff must complete and lodge the Security Access Card Request Form (PDF 44kb 1p) at RMIT Security. View Security locations on RMIT’s campuses. Staff must also ensure that their applications are signed off by the staff member who has authority to endorse a request for after-hours access.
2. When staff lodge their completed and authorised form with RMIT Security, they will have their photograph taken for their staff/access card.
3. Staff will be notified by RMIT Security via email when their staff/access card is ready for collection. Staff should expect to receive notification within five days of RMIT Security receiving the application.
4. If staff do not receive notification within five days, they should contact RMIT Security to check on the progress of the application.

Students whose cards are stolen will have their security access card replaced free of charge upon presentation of a Police report.
After-hours access cards are not transferable from person to person. If Security finds a person to be in possession of an unauthorised access card, they will immediately confiscate and deactivate the card.
Staff or students who are caught sharing their after-hours access cards with others will forfeit use of their card for one week.
Staff or students who are caught sharing their after-hours access cards a second time will forfeit use of their card for between two weeks to one month.
The owner of the confiscated card must then apply through his/her Head of Division or School to reactivate the card.

Any person found to be using or attempting to use a card in an unauthorised manner, will have the card confiscated and deactivated.
