Understanding the RMIT learning environment

The learning environment in Australia is based on a western education model and may be quite different to what your child is used to. Students at RMIT are expected to develop independent skills and be self-motivated. Students are encouraged to voice their opinions, ask questions, to think independently and to challenge ideas. RMIT professors are very approachable and willing to assist students in their studies and understanding.

The Study & Learning Centre's Learning Lab provides information on the type of skills students are expected to develop in order to successfully complete their programs. It includes stories of international students and how they adapted to the RMIT learning environment. Your child should use this website as a resource during their studies.

Is your child under the age of 18?

In Australia the legal adult age is 18. At 18 years old Australians are legally allowed to drive, purchase and consume alcohol and vote in government elections. If your child is under 18 years of age, they must live in supervised accommodation, and have access to a caregiver. Please read more on Accommodation and welfare for students under 18.
