I graduated in 2001 with a Bachelor in Aerospace Engineering. I am currently working at Airbus in Hamburg, Germany, in the Aircraft Systems department. My job as Cooling System Specialist on the A380 project involves the design and installation of the galley cooling system. The responsibilities of System Specialist involve trouble shooting and ensuring the proper operation of the system on ground and in flight.
I participated in the exchange program in 2002, during which time I worked as a ‘Praktikant’ (work experience student) at Airbus in the very same department where I am currently employed. During that time I was involved in the preliminary design work of the galley cooling system. The tasks involved varied from defining the system’s requirements to weight analysis and even system certification.
Participation in RIIERP has certainly broadened my horizons to the international aerospace industry. Being involved in the program has provided me with the very unique opportunity to work for an internationally renowned company. It has helped not only in my professional development but also my personal development through the experience gained in a different country and culture.
I can honestly say that it is to the credit of RIIERP that I owe my current job. It was through the program that I was provided with the chance to get my ‘foot in the door’ and essentially gain employment at Airbus. The program is an essential educational means that assists in the development of graduates into confident professionals. In addition to this the program helps to make graduates more marketable, not only internationally, but more importantly back in Australia.
