I asked the Director of RIIERP: “Is there any chance to amalgamate my RMIT studies with an industrial experience?” His response: “How about a one year international work experience at Magna International, one of the world’s biggest automotive suppliers?”
I had an idea of unmanned & intelligent vehicle systems through books and technical papers but never thought of developing the same! I started as a trainee on BMW x5 development project followed by an internal placement as a development engineer in ADAS [Advanced Driver Assistance Systems] division. I worked on the development of intelligent systems like driver drowsiness, lane departure warning, intelligent headlamp control and traffic sign recognition in conjunction with international development teams of IBM Egypt, Magna Canada, Tata Elxsi India, Mobileye USA and others.
In today’s globalised world, cultural involvement is equally important to technical skills - and that’s where RIIERP outclasses any other general internship program. Working with leaders, scientists, researchers and engineers from different countries, industrial and cultural backgrounds has helped me in learning the importance of integrating myself and respecting them. The way the RIIERP team has helped me in arranging everything, including visa procedures and a pre-departure session on Germany was remarkably professional. RIIERP gave me an opportunity to open my horizon and to be a part of a multinational organisation where my achievements and innovative ideas are appreciated and where I can learn, implement and expand my expertise. Ultimately, I got an edge over other graduated engineers and I owe my current professional success to RIIERP. Cheers!
