At EADS I worked on the James Webb Space Telescope Project (JWST), which is the successor of the well-known and historically important Hubble Space Telescope. My job in the Thermal Analysis Department entailed design, development and testing of a thermal flexible link, for transferring thermal loads without any transfer of structural loads from one part of the system to another. I was able to appreciate the holistic nature and the scale at which design projects of such complexity are accomplished.
With increasing globalisation it’s important for any professional to work effectively in a multi-cultural environment. Through the program I formed lasting professional relationships (not just contacts!) with international business people and gained networking opportunities that are valuable in shaping my future career. A German language class at the Volkshochschule (evening education centre) gave me a chance to immerse myself into the culture and provided me with a deeper intellectual understanding. And I made friends for life.
RIIERP is a perfect way to show a proven record of your capabilities and potential to future employers. This helps to distinguish yourself from the competition. I gained knowledge of the functioning of the global aerospace industry which helped bridging the gap between university and the work world and allowed me to experience the roles, expectations, and behaviours of the job arena. As my experience on this program has exceeded my expectations in every way and has been so positive, I wholeheartedly recommend this program to all students who think they are capable and eager to make their mark early on in their respective professions.
