Luke Bond’s feedback about RIIERP

Luke Bond

RIIERP Placement: Airbus
2004: Hamburg, Germany

I was lucky enough to work at Airbus in Hamburg, Germany, in the Future Projects Office in the Weights and Structures group. I worked with aerospace and software engineers to develop computer based tools to estimate the weight of landing gears and engine pylons for the early stage of aircraft design.

My time at Airbus provided me with the opportunity to gain valuable experience and knowledge of the aircraft design industry. It allowed me to greatly develop my communication skills and my ability to work in a team of engineers to achieve a common goal. By working closely with engineers from various cultural and technical backgrounds, I was able to obtain a broader and more varied range of knowledge.

The knowledge and experience gained during my time at Airbus is something a student cannot get at university and will greatly contribute to my career as a professional engineer. RIIERP is one of the best aspects of RMIT and has to be one of the best of any university program available.

I am currently in my final year of an Aerospace Engineering degree, and I am employed by the Cooperative Research Centre for Advance Composite Structures (CRC-ACS Ltd) where I am a technical assistant. I am also contracted to the Defence Science and Technology organisation (DSTO) in the Maritime Platforms Division (MPD), where I am involved with the development of a capability to predict the performance of advanced naval composites during, and after, fire exposure.
