My name is Anish Singh and I am an undergraduate student studying Aerospace Engineering. I completed my internship at Robert Bosch GmbH in Stuttgart, Germany.
I worked in the Gasoline Systems division, within the field of Computational Fluid Dynamics to enhance the performance of injectors. I could apply the knowledge I gained at RMIT to real life problems. This was challenging and somewhat scary at first, as university life is vastly different to working. However, my colleagues at BOSCH helped a lot and I settled in very quickly. In my department I had the privilege to work with industry specialists in the field of CFD, not only from Germany but also from Japan via teleconferencing. This gave me an invaluable understanding of the cultural challenges faced by a multinational organisation.
After my six month internship I continued my RIIERP placement and completed my Bachelor thesis project in the same department. Writing a thesis at a multinational company has many benefits such as access to world class resources, guidance by experts in the field, and knowing that your work is really meaningful. I also think that now I am much better equipped for my final year at university.
Moving to a new country was quite challenging, especially as I didn’t speak a lot of German. During my time in Germany though, I was able to learn the language and I will continue to do so. In my free time travelled through Europe - I saw many beautiful cities and enjoyed some very delicious dishes! One of the highlights was certainly the 2010 soccer world cup and the opportunity to experience the excitement of a nation that is crazy about soccer.
My time overseas was the most exciting time of my life and certainly an experience that I will never forget. Through RIIERP I have forged many new friendships and made important industry contacts.
