Conditions for participation
Who can apply?
- Undergraduate participants must be in at least the third year of their four or five year honours programs before they are eligible to apply.
- Students undertaking three year programs must be in at least the second year of their programs before they are eligible to apply.
- Students undertaking two year programs must have completed at least one year of their programs before they are eligible to apply.
- All undergraduate students who are accepted for RIIERP must enrol into the International Industry Experience Course (MIET 2066 or MIET 2065) during their period of participation. Students will be required to complete all the assessments tasks pertaining to this course by the end of their internship. The course guide is available, like all other RMIT courses, on the relevant RMIT web site.
- Graduates who are no longer enrolled in RMIT programs will be required to enrol in the Graduate Certificate in Engineering Management (GC034) or any other graduate program at RMIT. Graduates must have completed 50% of their graduate program in order to be eligible for participation. The International Industry Experience Course (MIET 2084) will be a compulsory elective in any of the graduate programs into which the student is enrolled.
Application administration fee
$75 (plus GST) non-refundable application administration fee will be billed to you as per normal student debt payments.
Additional conditions for international students
International students are permitted to take one semester of RIIERP with RMIT recording that semester as a reduced study load. This will not affect the student’s place in the program and will provide the regulatory compliance to facilitate the student’s visa extension related documentation from RMIT later on.
International students may participate in RIIERP for two semesters with the understanding that their Australian visas may be cancelled, requiring them to apply for the issue of a new Australian visa from off-shore before returning to Australia to resume their studies.
We strongly recommend you contact the International Student Services Centre at isservices@rmit.edu.au to discuss your options.
Advice to all students
Before departure all students are advised to consult their program coordinators to ensure that:
- they are properly enrolled
- their participation does not cause significant disruption in their program of study.
