Learning and Teaching – Our approach

Learning and teaching at RMIT has four main objectives:

  • to produce work-ready graduates with a hunger for life-long learning
  • to provide a positive student experience
  • to provide a ‘global passport’ to work and learning
  • to capitalise on the university’s dual-sector advantage through flexible access to awards within and between vocational and higher education

Teaching at RMIT is distinguished by the involvement of respected industry professionals and researchers.

Partnerships with industry and community are a feature of study at RMIT and help students to build networks with future employers and peers, both locally and internationally.

Pedagogy at RMIT is characterised by a learning-centred approach which recognises that the ultimate test of the effectiveness of teaching is the student’s acquisition of new knowledge and skills.

RMIT’s approach to learning and teaching is also founded upon recognition and respect for student diversity so that learning opportunities cater for all, including those who may be disadvantaged.

At RMIT, course objectives are aligned with supportive learning activities and assessment that is criterion referenced and valid (i.e. genuinely measures what it claims to measure).

RMIT staff are committed to ongoing development of their teaching and industry skills and actively involve students in learning through a variety of activities.
