An emergency is an event (actual or imminent) which in any way endangers or threatens to endanger the safety or health of any person; or destroys or damages, or threatens to destroy or damage, any University property.
Emergencies that may occur within a University environment include:
For emergencies on the following onshore campuses – Brunswick, Bundoora and City – phone the RMIT Security emergency number:
If you are unable to get through, phone Ext 0 -000 (if dialing from within RMIT) or 000 (if not calling from an RMIT phone) and request the service: Police, Fire Brigade, Ambulance.
In the event of a medical emergency:
If an ambulance is called, notify Security on Ext. 53333 OR (03) 5572 5740 or Mobile number 0418 301 875 to facilitate ambulance access on to campus.
Back to topPlease contact RMIT Security’s emergency number on Ext 53333 (Internal. Please note that there are emergency phones on every level of every building) or 9925 3333 (if you cannot access the emergency phone on your level and are using your’s or someone else’s mobile phone.)
RMIT Security will assess your situation and determine what service to call upon – either an Ambulance – if you urgently need access to medication that you have in another location – or the Fire Brigade if you need assistance with vacating the building.
Under no circumstances, do not allow a member of staff or students to attempt to carry you out of the building. They are not equipped to deal with such a situation and could injure you and/or themselves.
If you have witnessed a robbery of either someone’s personal property or RMIT-owned property, contact RMIT Security on your campus who report the theft to the Police and compile an incident report.
If you have been robbed on campus, contact RMIT Security on your campus. RMIT Security will compile an incident report and will advise you how to contact the Police to report the robbery.
To request a Locksmithing service, please contact Property Services’ Service Desk. You can either phone the Service Desk on Ext. 52111 or email them at propserv.service.desk@rmit.edu.au.
Some locksmithing services incur a charge, so you must provide an Internal Order Number and a Cost Element (aka Cost Centre Code) when logging your request.
Place an order via the Property Services Service Desk. When giving the information, please ensure that you supply all the relevant information required such as:
*Please note, if you are ordering a restricted key (Status 6 or TWIN) then ONLY a School/Department Key Control Officer is authorised to order/sign for these keys.
Once you place an order via the Property Services’ Service Desk, new keys take 1 to 2 business days to complete.
Back to topPlace an order via the Property Services Service Desk. When giving the information, please ensure that you supply all the relevant information required such as:
*Please note, if the request is urgent, please contact the RMIT University Locksmith Workshop.
If you need your lock cylinder changed or re-keyed, you must first discuss this with your Key Control Officer who has the responsibility to either authorise or decline your request.
If the Key Control Officer authorises your request, he/she will log the request with the Property Services’ Service Desk.
If you lose a key, you MUST immediately report this to RMIT Security, RMIT Locksmiths and the relevant Key Control Officer for your School/College/Department.
From there, the appropriate action can be taken to replace the keys and the integrity of the University’s security can be maintained.
Often, lost keys are handed in at one of RMIT Security’s Control Points or at the RMIT University Locksmith Workshop (Ext. 52518).
Please check with us when you report the lost key(s) to ensure that they haven’t been found or handed in.
If you find a key(s), please hand it in at either the RMIT Security Control Point on your campus or the RMIT University Locksmith Workshop, if you are based on the City campus.
If you are unable to reach a Security Control Point or the RMIT University Locksmith Workshop, please hand them into your Key Control Officer to hand back to us.
If you are moving office, you will most likely need a new key and/or cylinder. In most cases, your School/Department/Division Key Control Officer will organise this for you.
If the office move is being undertaken in conjunction with the Property Services’ Projects Branch, then the relevant Key Control Officer will already have been in contact with RMIT University Locksmiths and a key/cylinder will be organised for when you move into the newly refurbished premises.
