Professor Bob Galliers.
Professor Bob Galliers, Bentley University, Massachusetts, USA, visited RMIT University to conduct a seminar on confronting information systems inflexibility in dynamic environments.
In his seminar, Professor Galliers reflected on some of the literature surrounding information systems strategy. In doing so, he questioned some of the concepts that underpin mainstream thinking on the topic.
As a result of this analysis, Professor Galliers will develop a framework designed to aid conceptualisation of the process of information systems strategising in a way that increases agility in organisations that are operating in a dynamic business environment while being dependent on relatively static technology.
“Professor Galliers is highly respected in the field of Information Systems and we are very lucky that he has the time and willingness to come and speak at RMIT,” Geoff Kaandorp, Research Coordinator, School of Business IT and Logistics, said.
Professor Galliers’ research focuses on information systems strategy and the management of change associated with the adoption and appropriation of ICT-based systems within and between organisations.
He was appointed Bentley University’s inaugural University Distinguished Professor in July 2009, having served as Bentley’s Provost and Vice-President for Academic Affairs since 2002.
Before joining Bentley, Professor Galliers was Professor of Information Systems and Research Director in the Department of Information Systems at the London School of Economics.
He is editor-in-chief of the Journal of Strategic Information Systems, has published more than 70 articles in leading international journals and has won three best journal article awards. He has authored or co-authored 11 books and has given more than 40 keynote addresses at major international conferences.
