Taking the rough with the smooth.
Following the success of the inaugural event in 2008, the second RMIT University Alumni and Friends Golf Day was held at the Commonwealth Golf Club.
Hosted by RMIT Alumni and Development, the day saw 35 keen golfers enjoy 18 holes on one of Australia’s most revered courses, followed by a relaxing lunch in the clubhouse.
The day was sponsored by RMIT Village Old Melbourne, and saw a mix of current and retired staff, alumni, students, industry partners and guests attend.
Kathryn Moloney, Alumni Programs Coordinator at RMIT, said guests were encouraged to bring along an alumnus, retired staff member, friend, associate or supporter who might like to re-establish or further develop their relationship with the University.
“The Alumni and Friends Golf Day was an excellent networking opportunity for guests. Events such as these are a wonderful example of how we can strengthen relationships in a mutually beneficial, fun way,” Ms Moloney said.
Tony Killen, Chair of Equity Trustees, and a guest of Stephen Somogyi, Vice-President Resources at RMIT, won two Nearest the Pin awards while the third Nearest the Pin award went to RMIT alumnus Lawrence Muhuthia.
Associate Professor Kevin Adams, Head of the School of Accounting and Law, and current RMIT student Simon Wilson both won Longest Drive awards. Mr Somogyi’s team won the overall match with a net of 57.375.
Potential new players can express interest in joining this friendly networking group by emailing Kathryn Moloney at alumni@rmit.edu.au.
“We had 35 players tee off, but only one was a woman. Next year we hope to have more females playing as it really is a fantastic day. In fact, I might even play, myself,” Ms Moloney said.
