Awards, wages and conditions

Apprenticeships and traineeships are covered by a state or federal award outlining the minimum legal requirements such as:

  • how much you should be paid
  • the terms and conditions of your employment
  • sick pay
  • holiday pay
  • meal breaks
  • work cover
  • superannuation
  • supervision
  • training.

Living away from home allowance

If undertaking an apprenticeship/traineeship means you have to move away from home or you are homeless, you may be able to receive a living away from home allowance.

Apply at your Australian Apprenticeship Centre (AAC).

Accommodation allowance

If you have to stay away from home overnight to attend training at RMIT, you may be able to get an accommodation allowance. This is a separate scheme from the living away from home allowance.

Apply at RMIT through student services.
