Abstract: Mentoring the would-be mentor across three generations of the supervisor / research student relationship. In the rush to become 'research active', new supervisors often jump the expert training and mentoring they need to become high quality supervisors from the outset. This seminar tells the lessons learned from 3 generations of supervisors and students where 'passing the baton' through skills and knowledge transfer and through example is an integrated part of successful supervision practice.
